This rainy North Cascades elopement day is one of my favorite examples of how there is no "bad" weather in the PNW! Sara & Kyle had the distinction of being one of our coldest, wettest, and rainiest sessions last year when we met up with them for their engagement session! And what can I say, the literary, moody, PNW vibes must just follow them around, because while we had planned on sun for this elopement, the thick, low-hanging clouds and persistent rain that morning clued us in that the sunny forecast we had planned on was very much mistaken.
Luckily, we've learned a bit more about how to keep ourselves & our gear dry since their engagement session, and were fully prepared this time! So we abandoned our original plan to hike out about 5 miles for their elopement ceremony. Not wanting to be in the cold and a white-out cloud layer the whole time, we pivoted to another easier spot nearby which didn't require as much leg work to get to. Cutting down on the distance from the warm and dry car was an imperative thing for a day when we needed to be mindful of how much time we spent outside for everyone's safety & comfort!
While it wasn't the typical sunny weather that everyone sees photos, I always like to stress to people that this is really how the mountains look here in Washington about 80% of the time! Personally, we love the beauty of the clouds & rain just as much as the sunshine. So the weather blessed us with a gorgeous foggy atmosphere for this rainy North Cascades elopement which honestly, made the whole day that much more intimate and romantic. Not only did it keep the crowds away, but the entire place felt like a misty, mysterious, romantic painting and was an incredible landscape to shoot in.
The wonderful folks at Ivory & Evergreen helped create and style a stunning picnic set up for these two newlyweds, complete with *utterly* jaw-dropping florals from Anthera Floral. Sara looked incredible with her extra long train, pink leather jacket, and of course, a handy umbrella. Beauty by Elizabeth Marie did a fantastic job with hair & makeup that stayed put the whole day. The dripping rain on the cabin roof and delicious pie from Snohomish Pie Co. really just completed the romantic, candle lit mood for this North Cascades elopement. Sara & Kyle are an incredible couple, and I had the pleasure of working super closely with them to re-envision their wedding day plans after postponing several times due to the pandemic. They're both such lovely gems of people, and getting to know them better since they booked with us (seems like forever ago now!) was a major highlight of 2020! Seeing them finally tie the knot & so happy to make it official was such a joy. From the epic smiles on their faces, I think it's pretty clear how they feel about each other.
