It's not very often one can count their parents among their clients, but when my parents asked if we would photograph their vow renewal in Kauai, the only possible answer was yes. 33 years married, and they wanted to renew their vows in Hawai'i, which has become such a dear place to them over the years. They are some of the most hardworking, resourceful, generous people I’ve ever met. They have always wanted to see the Na Pali coast together, which is accessible only by helicopter, boat, or backpacking. We had the chance to hike a good portion of it during our last trip, but my parents booked a boat tour to see the coast from the water. Komohana Charters @komohanacharters did a hell of a job showing us around. We saw dolphins, snorkeled with sea turtles, got soaked by waterfalls, stared at ceilings of sea caves, admired ancient Hawaiian stone walls and saw the remains of beautiful horticulture they brought with them to these remote and sacred valleys. With a last minute location switch up, we found a quiet cliff for them to say their vows with the waves crashing around them at sunset. It was such a special thing to be a part of & to capture such lovely memories for them. If you scroll all the way to the bottomm, there's a bonus photo of us salty sea dawgs at the end, courtesy of my dad, who has always been my OG supporter, always giving me pep talks and hand-me-down gear, right from the very start.
